EC3 Action Comfort Zone

Purpose: Reflect on how we assign comfort levels to actions.

Explanation: The Action Comfort Zone represents the idea that we have a level of comfort associated with each of our actions. Some actions may be comfortable and easy to complete, while others may challenge us and must be avoided. By learning about the comfort levels we assign to actions, why we assign them, and our current action comfort levels, we can become better planners, goal setters, and decision makers. Understanding when we are taking on too many challenges or simply coasting along can help us plan our goals and aspirations.

Action Comfort Zones

Challenge your assumptions: In different circumstances, we may be incapable and uncomfortable doing the same actions. When we encounter an action outside our comfort zone, it is useful to acknowledge and question why we have placed it there. Why have I decided this action isn't for me? Is the reason in concordance with my beliefs about myself? It is also important to review the actions we are comfortable with and understand and accept why we are comfortable with them. Taking time to review our routine actions and the comfort levels we assign to them can provide valuable feedback about our state of mind and the state of our lives.

Strategy building: When developing life plans or goals, an awareness of our action comfort zones will enable us to set more realistic goals. When deciding to undertake a new challenge or goal, always think about the comfort levels we assign to the actions involved. Decide whether the actions we have chosen are the most appropriate or if there are actions we are more comfortable with that will achieve the same outcomes. In addition, explore if, while making or planning our goals, there is scope to develop ourselves by challenging and developing our comfort zone.
