Purpose: An exercise to develop self-analysis and awareness.
Explanation: Contentagious is an introspective brainstorming exercise that helps you discover subconscious motivations.
When you're feeling disconnected from yourself or going through times of change, this exercise can help you reconnect with your wants, desires, and motivations.
Perform this exercise periodically as a reminder of your motivations and to track how they change.
Contentagious
-
Write down a list of objectives you want to achieve in your life. For example:
-
Get married
-
Own my own home
-
Earn a million pounds
-
Imagine you have achieved all the goals on the previous list. Spend some time enjoying this alternate reality.
-
Ask yourself: "What will I do now?" Create a second list of things you would wish to do once you had achieved all the things on the previous list.
-
Repeat the previous process until you reach the point where you decide you are content.
-
Review your lists and look for similarities and differences in your answers. Look for motivations that may explain multiple answers. Acknowledge the items on your list and keep them in mind during any future goal-setting.
Summary: Learning to be content is an important life lesson. We cannot have everything in life, so understanding what makes you content should be a goal for everyone. Use the lists to learn about the motivations behind the actions and achievements you strive for, and consider if some of your fundamental motivations can be achieved using other methods.
